We sincerely invite you to participate in the charity fundraising dinner

To benefit local people and contribute to society, PANDA is taking action!

PANDA(Personalized Add-on Acupuncture service at the Northern Emergency Department for Acute Pain)It is a clinical project designed to provide personalized acupuncture treatment for patients with acute pain in the emergency department. It is carried out by RMIT University and Northern Hospital.

Acupuncture research at Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) combines the philosophy and culture of evidence-based medicine and traditional Chinese medicine. In the latest Excellent Research Australia (ERA) rankings, RMIT was rated "well above world standards" for alternative medicine and clinical research. Northern Health (NH) is the largest general hospital located in northern Melbourne and has the largest emergency department in Victoria, receiving more than 110,000 patients every year. RMIT and Northern Hospital have a history of cooperation for more than 20 years.

Project PANDA is a groundbreaking study using acupuncture to reduce pain in emergency room patients. Research shows that acupuncture has powerful efficacy in pain management and there is significant patient demand. This project will provide a framework for the wider integration of acupuncture into the healthcare system in Australian hospitals. RMIT's scientific research team reported that the introduction of acupuncture into hospitals has received active support from Australian doctors, nurses and patients.

The most common condition seen in hospital emergency rooms is pain. Currently, morphine is the main treatment option, but for some people, morphine is not only ineffective and can cause many side effects. Clinical medicine has shown that acupuncture has a very positive therapeutic effect on pain caused by various diseases, and has been recognized by the Australian and New Zealand Anesthetists Association as an effective, safe and non-drug acute pain treatment method with few side effects. However, as TCM acupuncture has not yet been incorporated into the Australian national medical system, this effective therapy has not been widely used in hospitals.

The PANDA project, a collaboration between RMIT and Northern Hospital, is a groundbreaking project with historic significance. It is the common wish of RMIT, Northern Hospital and the Chinese community to form a fundraising committee to promote the implementation of the PANDA project. The Fundraising Committee has been formed in the second half of 2023, and has used Zoom conference rooms to hold PANDA project seminars many times. On December 8, 2023, members of the organizing committee held the first offline seminar on the PANDA project in the RMIT conference room.

On February 19, 2024, RMIT officially launched the PANDA fundraising campaign with Chinese community leaders and philanthropists when celebrating the Spring Festival of the Year of the Dragon.

On June 26, 2024, RMIT passed the ethics approval of the PANDA project, which is gratifying! On July 15, online fundraising for Australian English speaking societies officially began.

All of us at the UCAA are willing to contribute to the economic and social development of Australia, and at the same time inherit the excellent traditional culture of the Chinese nation. It is our unshirkable responsibility to promote the PANDA project. Our fundraising will allow acupuncturists to go into hospitals and work with emergency room doctors and nurses to reduce patient suffering. We fully promote the process of the PANDA project and call on all sectors of society to actively participate in, support and pay attention to the PANDA project and contribute to this end. Your participation and every donation is not only material assistance, but also spiritual support. Charity is not only an act, but also an attitude. Let us work together to promote traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture to enter hospitals as soon as possible to benefit the people and contribute to society.
